Hardwood Floor Sanding & Finishing

Sanding

One of the benefits of site-finished hardwood floors is the smooth, almost seamless look and feel. Pre-finished wood flooring typically has grooves and gaps between the boards which trap crumbs and dirt making it difficult to clean.

Sanding makes site-finished floors completely flat and smooth. We make multiple passes with various grits of sand paper to prep the floors before applying the stain and finish.

The Skinny on Sanding

Sanding Process

Sanding is a process. We use various types of professional sanding equipment in order to achieve a smooth, even surface. Hardwood flooring can be sanded and refinished multiple times. Depending on the thickness of the floor and how well the floor is protected, the process can be repeated 8-10 times.

Finishing

Staining, sealing, and finishing hardwood floors, brings out the natural beauty of the wood making the unique grain patterns come to life. We can help you achieve the look you want with custom stain colors and finishes. We can also match existing flooring or coordinate with your color palette.

The finishing process is also an important step for protecting wood floors. Sealers penetrate the wood fibers and finishes create a first layer of defense against water, mud, grease and pet stains. No matter what type of wood you choose, all wood flooring needs a protective finish.

Choosing the Right Finish

Choosing the right top coat for your newly installed hardwood floors can be a little intimidating. The finish you choose has two important implications. The first implication is aesthetic. The finish will significantly impact the final look of your floors.  Finishes change and enhance the color, hue, sheen, and feel of the wood flooring.   The second implication is durability.   Which finish will provide the best protection for your floors?  Here is a quick summary of the finishes we use:
